So sorry for the loss of your friend. He sounded like a lovely human.
As for sleep -- I feel you. Some nights it's elusive and some nights it continues far into the day. I have no helpful words, except to say I hope you sleep well.
How I love the way you brought together the joyful growling vividness of a group of bikers in a city with the loss of a friend and the Ritsos poem. And your own "He flashed his frilly pantaloons / and if this were a bar" is just perfect. I want an emoji for birds that evoke pantaloons!
I ... believe ... I bought an early version of that alarm clock for my kids when they were very little. To signal to them that it was 5am and they could come bug me. Probably more effective for adults trying to reset rhythms than for a 3-year-old who wants granola *now.*
This Mardi Gras party sounds like the Event to Have Been At. I'm going to schedule my next east coast visit accordingly. 🎊🎊🎊
And Sarah's birthday party frankly sounds like the only kind of Mardi Gras I could handle! Minimum event overwhelm, maximum great people to hang out with, added bonus of rockstar bird sightings.
Great poems! love them. And the one you read for John.
And the sun clock. I have curtains on the bedroom window but enough gets through to wake me up. I get up too damn early... 6:00 AM usually. So I have to find stuff to do before the rest of the world wakes up. I'm so glad you came to the party. The one morning I sleep late... I'm glad you found Sharky's bagels, they are my go-to.
Stumbling across this just now through Swarna and Nia, and so glad I did. I wish I'd known Tom when I still lived in NJ! We shared many stomping grounds. I hope nature finds you on a more regular basis soon.

Thanks so much, Theresa. You too. ❤️

Yes! Come for Mardi Gras! New Jersey isn’t the traditional Mardi Gras gathering place but we’ll *make* it the traditional Mardi Gras gathering place.
And thanks so much, and now I too long for a frilly pantaloon bird emoji!!! 🦅🩲😂❤️
LONG past time 😂

I’m glad you slept late and that Sharky’s bagel was *key*! 🦈😁
