“Are you here for the tropical kingbird?” the ranger at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge asked. I wasn’t. I had no idea what a tropical kingbird was, but I was about to find out.
Thank you for sharing the lovely photos and as always, your words, which are a delight to read. I hope you are feeling better. And congratulations on the publication, I can't wait to read it.
Wonderful to start with the kingbird and leave him as a teaser than return to the kingbird and eagles and the news about the essay for Shenandoah! Well done!
Your photos are gorgeous! We also got to see the Tropical Kingbird by accident! We were driving home from Bethany Beach and decided to stop by Blackwater. We were on our bikes, enjoying the day but there weren't many birds to see, until we came around the bend and found 3 or 4 people with their fancy scopes and cameras all focused on a bare tree with ONE bird in it! I like Kingbirds anyway, so what a treat to see this BOLD looking boy!
That's so neat that we share the Tropical Kingbird Experience! And yes, I swear he's hanging out here just to show off -- he is so gorgeous though, he deserves all the attention. I hope you had a wonderful trip!
Loved this!!
Thanks so much! :)

Thanks! I'm feeling better (slowly) and really looking forward to sharing this scary-funny-sad moment with these elephants. :)
